Mineola, Long Island, NY, NYUWinthrop Hospital has a Urology Fellowship available for 1 year in Minimally Invasive Surgery and the focus of this training is all aspects of minimally invasive Urology, advanced laparoscopic robotic assisted surgery, endo-urology and cryotherapy. This program offers the opportunity to advance one’s skills in the management of the uro-oncology patient with upper and lower tract disease, inclusive of collaboration with Radiology, Pathology, Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology. The Fellow will function as a junior attending at Winthrop Urology, PC and the Department of Urology at NYU Winthrop Hospital, an academic medical center just 25 minutes from Manhattan, (one block from the LIRR Mineola station), which boasts Prostate Cancer as the #1 cancer treated.
Clinical: The fellow will be exposed to a broad variety of minimally invasive urologic oncology cases including surgical treatment of prostate, kidney, adrenal, bladder, and upper tract carcinoma. You will also have exposure to the Comprehensive Cancer Center, Clinical Trials program, and participate in all academic clinical meetings and conferences. This program offers an invaluable experience in minimally invasive urologic surgery. You will work directly with the Program Director Anthony Corcoran, MD, FACS and Chair of Urology and President of the American College of Cryosurgery, Aaron Katz, MD, FACS.
Research: The Fellow will be a member of our urologic oncology research team which consists of full time PI’s, a research coordinator, research analysts, urology residents, a database coordinator, and medical students. The research has a broad base, but focuses on urologic oncology clinical outcomes, pharmacotherapeutics, nutraceuticals and clinical investigation in genomic and biomarkers. You will be expected to prepare abstracts for submission to regional and national meetings which should generate multiple manuscripts.
Education: The Fellow will be expected to attend and participate in our active didactic program in the Department of Urology which includes tumor board, grand rounds, journal club, morbidity and mortality, and cancer workgroup meetings. You will also be responsible for teaching residents, Physician Assistants, medical students, and visiting doctors.
Applicants must have completed an ACGME accredited urology residency by June 2019 for the 2019 position and June 2020 for the 2020 position and be eligible for a medical license in NYS.
