The incumbent will be employed as a part-time retinal specialist in the Ophthalmology Section in the Surgery Service. Indianapolis VA Medical Center is a tertiary care facility classified as a Clinical Referral Level 1 Facility. Applicants should have expertise in comprehensive Ophthalmology, with subspecialty training in medical and surgical retina. The incumbent will deliver care to veterans requiring eye surgery or needing treatment of eye disease for both general ophthalmology and the practice of retina and will maintain a busy clinical and surgical practice. Care will be delivered in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.
Effective interaction with related services such as Nursing, Primary Care, and Ambulatory Care is required, as well as with multiple divisions/services throughout the facility to improve outcomes and efficiencies. Collaborates on a frequent basis with Administration, Optometry, and other care lines to facilitate the operations within the Eye Care program to meet common goals. Fosters a high level of patient and staff satisfaction. Expectations include maintenance of a high degree of excellence in clinical outcomes while providing efficient patient care throughput. Responsibilities involve participation in all aspects of the Eye Care Program, including clinical, administrative, and academic components. Performs the administrative components of patient care management such as dictation of both inpatients and outpatients. Participates in quality improvement activities.
Candidates will teach ophthalmology residents from IU School of Medicine. Applicants should demonstrate a record of performance in teaching and clinical care appropriate to the position for which they are applying. The position offers excellent opportunities for rewarding interactions with an outstanding house staff and faculty and participation in the dynamic evolution of a progressive medical care system.
Preferred candidate will be American Board Certified or Board Eligible physician holding an active, unrestricted state medical license and be eligible for an appointment in the Department of Ophthalmology at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
