Gibson Cancer Center in Lumberton North Carolina, is seeking an Internal Medicine provider to join the team in Wholistic caring for our patients. The North-Star clinic is inside the cancer center is an integral part of the operation. Candidates will be expected to maintain an enhanced understanding of oncology and hematology patient and practice needs. Candidates will also be expected to teach residents and medical students on the oncology and hematology service under ACGME requirements.
Primary focus areas include:
New patient referrals / work up – Gibson is committed to decreasing time from abnormal finding to treatment offered and access to care. As part of these two initiatives, Gibson accepts referrals from all sources (including Hospitalists and ED) and ensures that that patient is ready for a specialty visit. Attendance and presentation at tumor boards is encouraged.
Treatment side effects – As part of the overall care team, works together to anticipate and address patient needs. Utilization of emergency services is monitored through OP-35 for active chemotherapy patients and service line goals are established.
Transitioning patients post treatment – As patients continue to be diagnosed earlier and live longer through improved treatment offerings, the number of survivors needing follow up visits continue to increase and can exceed the capacity of oncologist. The embedded clinic offers an alternative solution to APP or PCP for select patients.
Infusion center – Infusion/Injections for non-chemotherapy patients are offered at Gibson. We require a provider to be on site while patients are being treated. This position will be part of the team that provides coverage. Services are typically offered Monday through Friday from 8:00 to 4:00. Adjustments may be made to accommodate patient requests.
Owned and operated by Southeastern Health, Gibson Cancer Center is the only outpatient cancer treatment facility in Robeson County. Established in 1995 as the Southeastern Cancer Center, the name was changed in 2002 to honor Alice and Monroe Carr Gibson, two Robeson County citizens dedicated to the cancer patients of this region.
