This position is located in the Radiation Oncology Service, at the Albany VA Medical Center, Albany, New York and supports the Network 2 Mission to care for our Veteran with compassion and excellence. This position is responsible for providing a broad range of Radiation Oncology services to Veterans receiving care at the VAMC. Each Radiation Oncology Specialist functions as a cooperative and collegial team member with the entire staff. The Radiation Oncology Specialist is charged with delivering the best possible Radiation Oncology services to our Veteran patients. The Radiation Oncology Specialist will perform indicated services for conditions in both inpatient and out-patient clinical settings, including telemedicine. This care must be delivered in accordance with hospital policy, meet community standards and pertains to outpatients as well as inpatients. The Radiation Oncology Specialist works within his or her privileges at all times. The Radiation Oncology Specialist is expected to maintain current knowledge and skills. He or she must be able to deliver interventions throughout the full spectrum of Radiation Oncology; i.e. he/she is expected to maintain good diagnostic and therapeutic acumen. Duties include, but are not limited to: Radiation Treatment Planning, Radiation Oncology Clinic Patient Assessment, Radiation Oncology Clinic Follow-up Patient Visits, Radiation Oncology Peer Review Radiation Oncology Chart Rounds, and Radiation Oncology Strategic Planning. Teaching is an integral part of the work of a VA staff Radiation Oncology Specialist. This pertains to colleagues, residents, medical and nursing students, nursing and other ancillary staff. The Radiation Oncology Specialist exercises corporate citizenship by serving as leader and/or active member on Medical Center committees as requested. Timely documentation (notes and encounter forms) is necessary in all areas in accordance with facility policy. All administrative work should be completed in a timely fashion. All VA requirements must be met on a timely basis.
