The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting for a Physician in Primary Care Service at the Youngstown VA Clinic. This is an OPEN CONTINOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until Thursday, June 30, 2022 or the position is filled. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be Friday, April 22. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR[(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR(3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. This provider (MD or DO) is the leader of a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) (Physician, RN, LPN, and clerical associate) which provides direct care for Veterans enrolled in Primary Care at the New Philadelphia VA Clinic. This provider is assigned responsibility for a panel of patients at a specific location. However the provider may be asked on some occasions to assist in patient care or administrative duties at the main hospital or at another site. Providing clinical examination, diagnosis, and treatment of acute and chronic diseases, preventive care, and coordination of care for a panel of primary care patients. Appropriate documentation of patient care in clinical records is expected. The physician refers to specialists when additional input and treatment outside of the scope of the physician's experience and training is required. Responsible for monitoring PACT team performance to assess adherence to VA standards, assure quality and effectiveness of care, and meet VA performance measures. Outstanding customer service is expected. Leading the team in assisting the patient advocate and administration in resolving patient concerns and inquiries. Exercising medical decision-making and providing a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for a specific group of patients; Must have excellent communication skills and relations with staff and community and is able to elicit cooperation from others. The primary care physician serves as a member of a larger multidisciplinary treatment team which includes social work, pharmacy, mental health, nutrition, and on occasion, other services. Performing other duties as assigned. This physician reports to the local medical director or associate chief of staff for primary care, who in turn is under the direct supervision of the Chief of Staff.
